Balcombe WI – 7 Great Women in Egyptian History

Our February meeting saw fifteen members, and two guests gather in the Victory Hall. We welcomed Margaret Baldock, as a new member, and hope she enjoys our WI.

Our speaker, Carole Andrews, spoke so knowledgeably about seven great women in Egyptian history. She made these women come alive and spoke for fifty minutes without a note.

We then enjoyed tea and cakes , before getting down to business, which included talking about planned speakers and outings for next year’s programme. Members had suggested a wide range of interests, so we will be looking at a Balcombe history talk, a visit to Camellia Botnar, chairobics, Chinese Brush Painting, Macrame, Crochet and possibly an outing to Chichester for a boat trip. There should be something there for everyone.

We are also planning to “ Plant a Tree for the Jubilee” and hope our new tree will be able to go near the one which we planted for the Silver Jubilee. It’s on the grassy bank by the Church Car Park, just down from the stone steps.

Our next meeting is on Thursday March 3rd, at 2pm prompt in the Victory Hall, and our speaker will be Linda Short, she will be sharing a few memories of her time as a Recycled Virgin.

We welcome visitors, and you can come twice, for a small fee (£2) before you need to make up your mind. We are very friendly and would love to see you.
