PICNIC IN THE PARK for Platinum Jubilee

The spring weather is starting to shine, and our village Picnic in the Park is fast approaching. The event will mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and is planned for SUNDAY 5th JUNE, in the recreation ground, running from 12 noon to 4pm or until people want to head home!

The 5-piece band The Captain’s Beard has been booked to play from 1pm-3pm, with their sea shanties guaranteed to put us all in a party mood. More live music may be in the offing, and we will provide more information on this at a later date.

The idea of the picnic is to bring the whole village together in a simple way that everyone can take part in, and we hope as many people as possible will want to come along to meet their friends and neighbours, bring their extended families, and make new acquaintances in a very friendly and low key setting.

Those who want to support this event just need to turn up on the Sunday afternoon with their picnic baskets and accessories, namely tables, chairs, picnic blankets, gazebos, bunting, flags and anything else they choose to while away a relaxing afternoon, hopefully in warm sunshine. We hope children as well as adults will enjoy the opportunity to play and socialise, so parents may want to bring bats and balls for their young people to play games with. Remember the basketball court and the table tennis table as well as the other play equipment we have in the playgrounds.

A core group of villagers are organising what needs organising, and others have volunteered their help closer to the date when we will check the park as well as we can and put up bunting and the Union flag.

To help with this, could we ask dog owners to be extra vigilant about picking up after their pet’s deposits so that no one has any unpleasant upsets at anytime during our village afternoon together.

Finally, if anyone else would like to lend a hand, please do get in touch. Similarly, if you would like to put forward any other suggestions for the afternoon, do email the parish clerk at parish.clerk@btconnect.com or call Carolyn or Rob on 07710 407577
