New Business Offers a Fresh Look

We talk all things bright and beautiful to local residents Freddie and Charlie, who’s business Balcombe Aesthetic Medicine, recently has opened its doors this year.

Tell us how long you have lived in Balcombe and why you chose the village?

Balcombe Aesthetic Medicine (BAM) is an aesthetic medicine clinic offering non-surgical, anti-ageing treatments and an award winning skincare range. Led by Dr. Freddie Charrington and his wife Charlie, BAM’s clinic is based at Heads Together in Balcombe Village.

We moved to Balcombe in August 2018 following time in London and Bristol. We knew we wanted to be in a rural setting and Balcombe provided the perfect option with the fast train to London and close proximity to East Surrey Hospital where Freddie is working. On exploring the village we quickly fell in love with it – everyone is so friendly and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We feel very lucky to have discovered the secret of Balcombe and are thrilled to be part of the Balcombe community, recently sponsoring the fantastic Balcombe Village Fete.

What made you want to start your business and what is your driving goal?

Having always had an interest in dermatology but being committed to the challenge of General Practice, aesthetic medicine presented a great opportunity to meet in the middle, with the ability to help clients to feel their best. Our goal is to achieve natural looking results for our clients using only the highest quality products. We strive to deliver excellent patient care and to support the development of a safe and informed aesthetic medicine industry.

What is your most popular treatment?

Our most popular treatment is anti-wrinkle injections (Botox®) with clients aged between 25 and 65.

What are your top tips for maintaining good healthy skin?

Our top tip for healthy looking skin is to limit sun damage through UV exposure, which is the main cause of skin ageing. It is little known that UVA rays, which can penetrate cloud cover, cause the majority of the visible signs of ageing. We recommend using a product with a minimum SPF 30 daily – the NeoStrata® Matrix Support (SPF30) and Sheer Physical Protection (SPF50++) are our favourites. If everybody followed this rule, we would be out of business!

How long do treatments last?

Anti-wrinkle injections are applied to the forehead, frown and crow’s feet areas, paralysing the muscles and reducing the appearance of wrinkles – the effects of which last for 3-4 months.

Dermal fillers, most commonly applied to the lips and cheeks, restore volume which is lost as we age. These can vary in duration, with options available for a period of 6-12 or 12- 18 months.

All treatments require a mandatory consultation to assess each patient’s individual goals. Consultations typically last 45 minutes and are complimentary.

Have you yourself had any treatments done and explain the benefits?

The aim of aesthetic medicine is to help clients to look and feel their best, wherever they are in the ageing process and whatever their individual goals may be. We are helping clients to manage acne scarring, restore lost volume, prevent wrinkle formation and introduce a tailored, clinically evidenced skincare regime. After months of research, Charlie is a big fan of the NeoStrata® skincare range, using a cross range combination to cleanse, repair and protect.
